You know you are a Mom when....

Have you seen the new Luvs commercials? They show a first time mom being over prepared and stressed trying to do something (like pack for a trip to the park) and then a mom of 2 doing the same thing in a much less stressed and simplified way.  I love those commercials.  They are so true!

I posted this on Facebook on Tuesday, March 12.

It's funny how things change. I remember standing in the yard, holding Kaden, waiting for the dog to pee and crying because I was overwhelmed when Chris went back to work and I was home alone with Kaden at 10 days old. Today (thanks to the snow day) I stayed home with 2 rowdy boys, a 5 day old and a dog and I was totally at peace.

It's so true.  Parenting has always been mostly natural to me.  Don't get me wrong, I still worry about things, call my mom with questions, and read things on the internet and think "I should be doing that."  But, I generally don't get too stressed.  I go with my gut, and I don't think my kids are too screwed up (yet). If you disagree, well, keep it to yourself. :)

I'm floating off topic though.  I've noticed some things lately, and I'd like to share.

1.  You know you are a mom of boys when, even though Legos are strictly limited to the dining room table, you find a lone Lego piece on the floor of the bathroom when you finally make your way in there to pee.

2. Speaking of bathrooms, you know you're a mom of at least one child (or dog) when you no longer get to even enter the bathroom alone.

3.  You know you're a mom to boys if you see a "choo choo" while driving alone in the car and feel a little sad there is no one to share it with.  Likewise, if you get a little disappointed when you drive the entire way to Omaha without seeing even one single train.

4.  You know you are a mom to a beautiful newborn baby girl when you have a hard time getting the kitchen cleaned, floor vacuumed, or laundry folded because it's just way more fun to sit and cuddle her.

5.  You know you are a mom to more than one child when your house is overtaken by socks.  Even in the summer when we rarely wear socks, there are always multiple socks on the floor, in every room.  Honestly, how are there 3 socks on the kitchen floor when I just picked up 2 socks ten minutes ago?

6.  You know you are a mom of a "drama king" kindergartener when not only can you NEVER do anything right, but even the stuff that someone else did is YOUR fault.

7.  You know you are a mom of a two-year-old wrecking ball when you have to lock all your appliances.  The diswasher and microwave are both permanently locked.  I wish I could lock the fridge.

8.  You know you are a mom to a two-year old when you repeatedly hear "my do," "me see," and "No!"  Not only is this kid SUPER independent, but he also has brute strength.  Just try to get him to get away from the stove when you are cooking....

9.  You know you are a mom of multiple children when you can ignore the screaming, crying, and fighting as long as no one is truly hurt.

10.  You know you are a mom of boys when you find a worm and no longer run away like you used to.  You pick it up and teach boys about worms.

11.  You know you are a mom of multiple children when you extend bath time and turn it in to play time so you can fold laundry, wash dishes, or just watch a tv show.

12. You know you are a mother of multiple children when you can help the older two with their happy meals, feed the baby in the McDonald's booth and still manage to eat your own food.

13.  You know you are a nursing mother when most of your meals are either eaten cold, or over the nursing baby's head.

I'm sure I'll have more observations as time goes on, but I'll leave you to ponder those for now.  I LOVE being a mom.  Some days I want to pull my hair out or just leave for a warm beach somewhere.  However, this is my life, and I'm ok with that.
